Welcome to the world of New Zealand embroidery. We hope through visiting our website you will gain an insight into how we function and if you are looking to join us you will find the information you need from our Guild register. Our Association has been in existence for over 30 years and over those years we have been led by very talented and dedicated women who have opened up a whole new world of enjoyment and interest to thousands of members. The Association offers all levels of embroidery with classes and group activities. For those who wish to extend their skills we offer the New Zealand Certificates of Embroidery. There are Exhibitions held nationally and locally and we have a wealth of tutors who will travel the country to share their knowledge. There are also opportunities to study with overseas tutors who frequently visit our shores. Whether you are a beginner stitcher or more advanced, curious, or looking for a contact in our Association, we hope you will find what you require on this website and we will be pleased to hear from you if you require more information. A message from the President
After a very hot dry summer, the rains have started and hopefully the grass will grow, although some areas are still very dry. 2008 is beginning with full programmes at Guilds everywhere and although there is lots of interesting embroidery around we do always need more members, especially a few younger ones. We do need to promote ourselves and encourage people to come and see what is happening in our Guilds. One Guild I visited has a target of 10-12 new members a year. Could we all have that as a challenge for 2008 too? Guild displays and exhibitions do encourage the public. How about bringing a visitor to your Guild and encouraging them to join and learn a new stitch or just do what they enjoy! I can't believe my term of two years is nearly over, it has been exciting and a humbling time and I have learnt such a lot, met and made new friends and rediscovered old friends. I have felt very privileged to visit so many Guilds and regions and to see the strength of embroideries in the Guilds, from the traditional to the contemporary. It is almost impossible to visit everyone of course, but I have loved the visits and I have been made to feel quite special. Thank you all. A few of our executive went to Sydney in October for the NSW Guild's 50th anniversary celebration. It was a very stimulating time with a good exchange of ideas and hopefully we will be able to work out a tutors' exchange programme, as we do enjoy what is happening in Australia. If any of you have planned a project or some study in the near future we do hope you will put a proposal forward for one of the Travel Study Grants that are awarded at Conference. ANZEG presents $1000 each to two applicants to help with travel or tutor costs. Your regional reps have the application forms. Conference 2008 in Hawkes Bay is fast approaching so I do hope you are working hard to enter one or more of the exciting exhibitions. There is the members' section for us all to enter, plus the open exhibition, which is usually for more contemporary and experimental embroidery. We will also be excited to see the junior sections. I have seen some wonderful free and colourful ideas on my travels. Thanks to the dedicated tutors who organise these groups for young people. May you have time for stitching and good friends, and I look forward to seeing as many as possible of you at Conference in Hawkes Bay.
