Requirements : Water soluble fabric (hot water) approx 90cm x 30 cm. Ribbons, threads, wools (there are some fabulous wools and knitting threads available) in colours or colour of your choice. Sewing machine and suitable thread to match. Lie your piece of soluble fabric lengthwise on a flat dry surface, and lie lengths of braid, thread, ribbon, etc., out on top of half of it, being careful not to stretch them. Remember also that some wool may shrink in the final washing. When you are satisfied you have enough thread, fold the other half of the soluble fabric over the top and pin into place,. You may need the assistance of an adult with the sewing machine. Stitch across each end, leaving approximately 15 cm for a fringe at either end, and then stitch diagonally across the threads being careful to get all threads on the outside stitched. Return the other way and stitch across again in the gaps. Continue in this way until you are certain all the threads are securely held in place. Wash your piece in hot water and lie out on a towel and pat into shape. Allow to dry. You may have to repeat the water wash a couple more times in order to remove all the dissolvable fabric. The end fringe may need trimming, or you may wish to knot some of the threads together, or add beads. Enjoy wearing your scarf !
