The Guild has met twice monthly during the months of February to
November. Work days have again been well attended with a larger number of members
present until lunch time. The afternoon sessions fluctuate, with attendance some months and days better than others.
Management of the Guild has again been under the committee system and this format appears to have found favour with the majority of members. The minutes of each meeting are posted on the Guild noticeboard so members who are interested can read them. The Guild continues to receive 'West Wind' and 'Needle Arts' from the Guild's contact in the USA .
During June a two-day course in Schwalm was well attended and very successful. Some members made name tags at the beginning of the year as a Guild project. A five-part project in blackwork was purchased and several members took this on. Others who had intimated they were interested found it was a larger project than they had expected and chose not to continue with it at Guild level.
Night classes and school classes have been held again this year and were well supported and enjoyed by all who attended. The Guild is very appreciative of the members who were involved in the preparation and tutoring of these two activities.
Friendship Day in May and the Waimate Retreat in June were very successful events with
visitors from other areas joining us. A special day to entertain wives and partners of visiting woodturners was held at the end of October and everyone who attended enjoyed a relaxing day. Guild displays have been held at Iona Home and the Library this year. These displays have been appreciated and commented on by many members of the public and the patients and staff of Iona . A special display of children's work from previous years was held at the library prior to the children's holiday classes.
Some members took pieces of their work to Rendall on Reed and enjoyed a special time, explaining the stitching and sharing stitching stories with the elderly residents.
