Welcome to our website
Welcome to the ANZEG website and world of New Zealand embroidery. We hope through visiting this website you will be enthused to seek further information about the Association or how you can become more involved in embroidery by joining one of our 59 guilds spread from the far north to the deep south. The Association offers classes at all levels to members with both local and international tutors, and those that seek further challenges can work through a New Zealand Certificate of Embroidery. National and local exhibitions are held regularly showcasing the wealth of experience and talent we have in this chosen art form. We trust that if you are a beginner stitcher or more advanced or looking for a challenge that you will contact us through this website or a guild in your area. President's Message Welcome to our New Year 2009. Although we are a quarter through it I know you are all busy with workshops, preparing for Guild exhibitions, regional exhibitions, regional days and retreats. Weatherwise the summer season has been kinder to us, but as I write there is heavy rain and flooding happening in the north and our thoughts go out to our fellow embroiderers in Australia either coping with the devastation of fires or floods. My aim during my term of office is to see you all in your own Guilds, and although my calendar is filling up fast, I have that objective placed very much in front of me. It is exciting and encouraging to see what you are all doing. Since the last Threads I have visited the Guilds in Otago/Southland and while visiting family in Timaru recently I spent a very enjoyable day with Aoraki Guild. During March I will be attending Wanaka Embroidery School where this year they celebrate 25 years since Gay Eaton and her committee stepped out and commenced this extremely exciting event. It certainly has grown over the ensuing years to become a now ‘not to be missed’ event on the embroidery calendar. Congratulations Gay and members of Otago Guild. The following weekend I will be attending Great Escape in Kerikeri then visiting Hibiscus Coast, Kerikeri, Doubtless Bay and Counties Guilds, I am looking forward to these visits very much. The Executive of ANZEG will hold its OGM in Porirua, June 12-14. This is a time for them to discuss the work of embroidery in New Zealand and how we can encourage it to continue to grow. Perhaps one way is through embroiderers doing a Certificate of Embroidery or attending a course in judging and critiquing which is always of value not only to yourself but also to others, because as we hold exhibitions we always need good judges. A course such as this or a certificate is a good opportunity for personal growth, understanding what makes good embroidery and how you can use this knowledge in your own embroidery. Information about courses can be obtained from Wendy Johnstone (wendymjohnstone@xtra.co.nz), Education Co-Ordinator, and Certificates information can be obtained from Noeline Becker (t.becker@xtra.co.nz). Wendy and Noeline are only too happy to help you obtain the information you need. The new website is up and running and I encourage everyone to use it, become familiar with it and add your own important dates and information to it. The website is only as good as you make it. Lots of people, especially overseas, visitors browse to see what is on as they travel around New Zealand. The Conference 2010 committee (July 9-16 in Waikato) is well on with their planning, they have a lot organised and trust that you are all planning and saving to go and visit them. Happy stitching. Margaret Erskine President.
